DBI has an extensive experience base with EIFS.  Specifically, Mr. James Daniel (founder and Sr. Principal of Daniel Building Investigations, Inc.) is a nationally recognized EIFS Expert and Building Science Expert with 40 years of experience.  He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the 24 states and is a Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC) through The Institute of Roofing, Waterproofing, & Building Envelope Professionals (RCI).

Mr. Daniel is a founding member of ASTM E06.58 on EIFS, has been a contributing author on several key EIFS standards, was in charge of EIF Systems development when working for USG Corporation, was fundamental in the investigation of failing barrier-type EIFS in North Carolina in the mid-1990’s, was the class expert representing Illinois homeowners in the state class-action lawsuit against Dryvit Systems, Inc. in the early 2000’s, and has investigated hundreds of problematic EIFS buildings, both barrier-type and drainage-type systems.  Mr. Daniel has represented numerous homeowners, general contractors, EIFS installing contractors, sealant contractors, window and door installing contractors, window manufacturers, and realtors when they have become a party to EIFS litigation.  As a consultant, he has also assisted with the development of drainage-type EIFS for EIFS manufacturers.

He has been responsible for numerous large forensic investigations relating to the performance of EIFS including moisture penetration problems, delamination issues, cause and origin of mold, and water penetration around or through window and door systems installed within EIFS.  He is an active member in ASTM Committees C11.05 on EIFS Installation, E6.58 on EIFS Testing (where he is the past chairman of the Water Penetration of EIFS Task Group); The Institute of Roofing, Waterproofing, & Building Envelope Professionals (RCI); and past member of NIBS Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC).
